*For general soil maintenance - Apply 1 cu. ft. for each 500 sq. ft. of area and
incorporate into top 3 to 5 inches of soil. For best results allow 10 to 30 days prior to
planting. For established plants or turf spread at the same rate and water thoroughly.
*For poor soils you may apply 2 cu. ft. for each 500 sq. ft. of area or in cases where
you will be producing a crop the next season and do not want to add compost during
the growing season.
*For increased vegetable production - sidedress with 1 cu. ft. per 100 ft. of row.

Cabbage, Cauliflower, and Broccoli - three weeks after planting in garden.
Cucumber and Cantaloupe - one week after blossoming begins.
Onions (for bulb production) - one week after bulb formation begins.
Peas and Beans - after pod setting begins.
Potato - after tuber formation begins.
Spinach - at about 30% of maturity.
Sweet Corn - when plants are 8 inches tall and one week after tassels appear.
Tomato - approximately one week prior to ripe fruit and four weeks later.

Pecans - Apply one ton per acre in March, one ton per acre in May and additional in
late August or early September based on the size of the crop.  Alternative forms of N
may also be used for the last application if your soil sample shows ample
Phosphorous and Potassium.

Note: Composted poultry manure is not a potting soil. You can add Early Bird
Compost to your potting soil if additional nutrients are needed. Some have seen
good results at rates of 1:12. Topdressing with Early Bird and watering in also works
good. This is a case where you can use too much and harm the plants especially
those sensitive to Nitrogen.
